Healing, Balance & Spiritual Awakening

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a complementary energy healing practice that channels universal life force energy through the practitioner’s hands to promote balance, harmony, and well-being. It is a sacred practice of awakening, alignment, and inner peace.

At its core, Reiki works with the same life force energy that flows through all living things. When this energy moves freely, we feel vibrant, clear, and connected. When it becomes blocked or stagnant, we may experience stress, illness, or a sense of disconnection.

The word Reiki (霊気) comes from two Japanese kanji:

🌿 Rei (霊) – Divine wisdom, sacred spirit, the intelligence that guides the universe
🌿 Ki (気) – Life energy, the unseen force that sustains all living things

Through a Reiki session, this healing energy is channeled where it is needed most—clearing blockages, restoring harmony, and supporting the body’s natural healing process. Reiki does not force; it simply flows, heals, and awakens.

Reiki does not replace medical treatment or professional healthcare.

The Origins of Reiki

Mikao Usui (1865–1926) is the founder of Reiki, a system of energy healing that emerged in Japan in the early 1920s. While Reiki, as we know it today, began with Usui, the principles behind it are likely rooted in much older traditions. His background in Buddhism, martial arts, and traditional Japanese spiritual practices suggests he was influenced by centuries-old teachings on energy flow, meditation, and healing. Some accounts suggest he also studied ancient Sanskrit texts and Taoist energy practices, which share similarities with Reiki’s concept of universal life force energy.

Usui’s pivotal moment came during a 21-day meditation and fast on Mount Kurama, where he reportedly experienced a profound spiritual awakening. From this, he developed a structured method of hands-on energy healing, which he called Usui Reiki Ryōhō.

While modern Reiki includes variations such as Holy Fire Reiki—introduced by William Lee Rand in 2014, incorporating new energetic concepts and a spiritual framework influenced by Christian spiritual influences—Usui Reiki remains rooted in its original Japanese teachings, symbols, and attunement process as passed down through his students.

How is Reiki used?

Receiving Reiki from a Practitioner

Receiving Reiki is a deeply relaxing and restorative experience. As you lie fully clothed in a peaceful space, the practitioner gently places their hands above your body, allowing the energy to flow where it’s needed. Many feel warmth, tingling, or a soothing wave of calm as energy blockages release and balance is restored.

People seek Reiki for many reasons:

  • To release stress, tension, and emotional burdens
  • To support healing from injury, illness, or fatigue
  • To balance energy and clear emotional blockages
  • To deepen intuition and spiritual awareness

Reiki for Self-Healing

Before Reiki is shared with others, it first awakens within. Reiki can be practiced as a daily self-care ritual, bringing:

  • Emotional balance and stress relief
  • Deeper self-awareness and inner peace
  • Physical support for pain, fatigue, and tension
  • A sense of renewal, clarity, and spiritual alignment

Self-Reiki is a practice of self-nourishment, helping you connect with the universal energy that flows within and around you.

Reiki for Others

When shared with another, Reiki provides a gentle yet powerful healing experience.

  • A Reiki session is typically given while the recipient lies down fully clothed.
  • The practitioner places their hands lightly on or above the body, allowing Reiki to flow.
  • Many experience warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation as stagnant energy clears and balance is restored.

Reiki for Pets & Plants

Reiki extends beyond human healing—it is harmonizing for all living things. Animals and plants respond naturally to Reiki, absorbing only what they need.

  • Pets benefit from Reiki to ease anxiety, recover from illness, or deepen their bond with their human companions.
  • Plants and gardens thrive with Reiki, promoting growth and vitality.

Reiki for Clearing & Neutralizing Energy in Objects

Everything holds energy—including objects we wear, use, or bring into our spaces. Crystals, jewelry, heirlooms, and even rooms can absorb emotional imprints, past experiences, or stagnant energy over time.

Reiki can be used to:

  • Clear and neutralize crystals, ensuring they hold only their pure vibrational frequency.
  • Cleanse sacred tools (tarot cards, pendulums, spiritual objects) before use.
  • Refresh and harmonize spaces, removing lingering energies from past occupants, emotional events, or negativity.

By infusing objects and spaces with Reiki, we restore them to a neutral or higher vibration, ensuring they resonate with peace, clarity, and pure energy.

Learning & Attunement

Reiki is not just a healing technique—it is a path of growth, transformation, and deepening connection to universal life force energy. The journey of an Usui Reiki practitioner unfolds through four levels of attunement, each expanding awareness, ability, and spiritual alignment.  There are Four Levels of an Usui Reiki Practitioner.  Each level deepens your ability to channel Reiki and expands your connection to its wisdom.

🔹 Level 1 (Shoden) – The Awakening

Shoden, meaning “first teaching,” is the entryway into Reiki. At this level, students receive their first attunement, opening their energy channels to the flow of Reiki.

  • Learn the history and foundations of Reiki
  • Activate the ability to channel Reiki energy
  • Begin self-healing and working with others

🔹 Level 2 (Okuden) – The Expansion

Okuden, meaning “inner teachings,” deepens the practitioner’s connection to Reiki and introduces the first sacred symbols that amplify healing power.

  • Receive sacred symbols to amplify Reiki’s power
  • Learn how to send Reiki across distance and time
  • Work with emotional and mental healing techniques

🔹 Level 3 (Shinpiden) – The Mastery

Shinpiden, meaning “mystery teachings,” is the level of mastery and self-transformation. At this stage, practitioners receive the Master Symbol, which strengthens their connection to Reiki’s highest frequencies.

  • Deepen your spiritual connection and healing abilities
  • Integrate Reiki as a way of life
  • Open your intuitive gifts and energetic sensitivity

🔹 Level 4 (Gokui Kaiden) – The Master Teacher

Gokui Kaiden, meaning “great mystery completion,” is the level of becoming a Reiki Master Teacher. This is for those called to train and attune others, ensuring the tradition of Usui Reiki continues in its purest form.

  • Learn to pass on attunements to others
  • Step into the role of teacher, guide, and mentor
  • Carry the lineage of Usui Reiki forward

Attunements are not just teachings—they are activations, unlocking the full potential of Reiki within you.
